Lu, a member of The McCain Ranch messageboard and her hubby George won the
2008 "Lifetime Achievement Award" at the Horsemen's Convention in Ellensburg, Washington.
Ellensburg is the place for gathering and shipping cattle for many years and is still hailed as a Cowboy town where the Top Rodeo Cowboys come every year for PRCA Rodeo every August.
Lu & George's award was for "Lifetime Achievement" with the Back Country Horsemen both Lu and George received it
The Young's have been instrumental in starting up two chapters of this group and served as officers and has done thousands of hours of work on the trails.
The Back Country Horsemen of Washington is just part of the Nation wide Back Country Horsemen and their mission statement is to work towards the perpetuation of the legal and moral claim by American people to use horses and mules for recreation on public lands.
Lu & George lobby in their state capital whenever trails are being closed to
horsemen they also interface with local agencies to show them we care about our trails and want to keep them open for horsemen and all users. The Back Country Horsemen chalk up hours clearing trails in the National Forests, Parks, Department of Nat. Resources, And Bureau of Land Management Lands for ALL users. They also clean camp areas of trash, keep restrooms clean and stocked in our National Forest. Sometimes they EVEN GET OUT on the trails and RIDE!! The Tradition of riding horses on Public lands goes back to the first pioneers and hunters and mountain men like Jim Bridger. We are just trying to keep this pastime alive for future generations
to enjoy.
Lu: "You know Chuck would have been a big supporter of this if he were alive and maybe Johnny."
